Diving Support Vessel (DSV)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Vessel with saturation-diving capability.

A Diving Support Vessel is a dynamically positioned ship equipped for saturation diving on subsea infrastructure, carrying the dive system (living chambers, diving bells, and gas), a moonpool or over-the-side launch, and ROVs. Saturation diving keeps divers under pressure for days so they can work at depth without repeated decompression. DSVs are central to subsea construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair, and demand high DP integrity because a position excursion endangers divers in the water.
