Doctrine Publication (Maritime)

An authoritative service or joint publication stating how naval forces are organized, employed, and fought, providing common terms and tactics without dictating fixed procedures. US naval examples include Naval Doctrine Publications (NDP), Naval Warfare Publications (NWP), and joint doctrine in the Joint Publication (JP) series; the UK equivalent is the British Maritime Doctrine in the BR/JDP series. Doctrine is authoritative but requires judgment in application; it codifies lessons learned and frames training, planning, and interoperability across allied navies.
