Electronic consignment note under CMR Protocol.
The eCMR is the electronic consignment note for international road haulage, the digital equivalent of the paper CMR note. It is created under the Additional Protocol to the CMR Convention concerning the Electronic Consignment Note, adopted in Geneva in 2008 and in force since 5 June 2011. The Protocol gives the electronic note the same legal and evidential value as the paper version once it meets the authentication and integrity requirements. Of the CMR contracting states, around 39 have ratified or acceded to the eCMR Protocol. UNECE maintains the framework; carriers and shippers capture sender, carrier, and consignee acknowledgments digitally rather than by manual signature.
