Engine and machinery survey

An engine and machinery survey is a classification survey of the propulsion and auxiliary plant, the main engine, shafting, boilers, pumps, generators, and steering gear, carried out to keep machinery class in force. It runs on the continuous machinery survey cycle, where each item is examined within a five-year window, or as a single periodical survey, and it underpins the renewal of the machinery class certificate. A satisfactory survey lets the owner certify the vessel as in class for fixture and trading. Outstanding recommendations or a condition of class flag the items the surveyor requires before the next operation.
