The Museum am Rothenbaum (MARKK), Hamburg, founded 1879 as the Museum fur Volkerkunde, holding Oceanic and Pacific watercraft among its ethnographic collections. Its holdings include outrigger canoes, navigation charts, and seafaring material from Polynesia, Melanesia, and Micronesia, documenting indigenous open-ocean voyaging. The museum was renamed MARKK in 2018. The collection reflects Hamburg’s nineteenth-century trading reach across the Pacific.
