Fast Crew Boat

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

High-speed personnel transfer for oil and gas.

A fast crew boat is a high-speed personnel and light-cargo carrier serving offshore oil and gas fields, typically a planing or semi-planing monohull or catamaran running 20 to 30+ knots. It moves crews between shore bases and platforms or rigs faster than a conventional platform supply vessel, with passenger seating, a small deck, and sometimes a fast rescue craft. The type overlaps the crew transfer vessel used in offshore wind and, in West African fields, the fast crew or surfer boat. Carriage of more than 12 offshore workers can engage SOLAS industrial-personnel rules under Chapter XV.
