FCL
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
Full container load.
FCL (full container load) describes cargo that fills, or is shipped under exclusive use of, a single container booked by one shipper, as opposed to LCL where a box is shared. Under CY/CY terms an FCL box moves sealed from the shipper’s stuffing point to the consignee without intermediate handling, which reduces damage, pilferage, and the consolidation surcharges that apply to LCL. FCL is priced as a box rate regardless of how full the container is.
