FCR

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Forwarder's Certificate of Receipt, FIATA document.

An FCR (Forwarder’s Certificate of Receipt) is a FIATA document by which a freight forwarder certifies that it has taken possession of a named consignment with irrevocable instructions to dispatch it to the consignee or hold it at the consignee’s disposal. It is not a transport document and not a document of title, so it is non-negotiable and cannot be transferred to third parties to pass control of the goods. It is widely used on ex-works and FCA purchases, where the FCR confirms to the buyer that goods are in the forwarder’s hands. The FCR is printed on FIATA’s standard green form and is one of the documents named in ISBP 745 for UCP 600 credits.
