Golden Globe Race
F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and SportDefinition
1968 solo non-stop circumnavigation race revived in 2018.
The Golden Globe Race is a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation. The original 1968 to 1969 event, sponsored by the Sunday Times, was the first round-the-world solo race; Robin Knox-Johnston in Suhaili was its only finisher. A retro revival began in 2018, requiring full-keel production yachts of about 32 to 36 feet and barring satellite navigation and modern electronics to recreate 1968-era conditions. It starts and finishes in France and runs roughly every four years.
