High cube container

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

Container 9 feet 6 inches tall.

A high-cube container is an ISO box 9 feet 6 inches tall, one foot higher than the 8-foot-6-inch standard container, while keeping the same 20-foot or 40-foot length and 8-foot width. The extra height adds about 13 percent of internal volume, which suits light, bulky cargo that cubes out before it weighs out. High cubes dominate the 40-foot fleet; they need careful attention to road and rail height clearances and are marked with a black-and-yellow caution stripe.
