Pallet wide container

A pallet-wide container is a box widened internally to about 2.44 m so it loads European pallets without wasted space, while keeping the standard ISO 668 external width of 2.438 m by using thinner side walls. The standard 1200 by 800 mm Euro pallet does not pack efficiently into a 2.348 m internal box; the pallet-wide design fixes that. A 20-foot pallet-wide holds 15 Euro pallets against 11 in a standard 20-foot, and a 40-foot holds 30 against 25. It interchanges on the same ships, chassis, and corner castings as a standard box and is common on intra-European and short-sea trades.
