Definition

Brand of HHI medium-speed engines.

HiMSEN is Hyundai Heavy Industries’ own four-stroke medium-speed engine brand, the name standing for Hi-touch Marine and Stationary Engine. HHI developed it to replace licensed four-stroke designs with an in-house line for ship auxiliary power and propulsion. The range spans the H17/28, H21/32, H25/33, H32/40, and larger bores, covering generator-set and propulsion duties from a few hundred kilowatts to several megawatts. HiMSEN engines burn heavy fuel oil or marine gas oil, meet MARPOL Annex VI NOx Tier II, and reach Tier III with selective catalytic reduction or exhaust gas recirculation. Dual-fuel H-DF variants burn LNG with a pilot fuel.
