IBS (Integrated Bridge System)

An Integrated Bridge System (IBS) is a combination of bridge equipment linked so that operator stations share sensor data and control through a common interface, letting one watchkeeper monitor and command navigation, communications, and machinery alarms from connected workstations. The governing IMO standard is the Integrated Navigation System performance standard MSC.252(83), which sets the requirements for sensor integration, consistent common reference, and failure handling. An IBS typically ties together ECDIS, radar with ARPA, GNSS, gyro, autopilot, the track control system, and alarm management. The key safety rule is that a failure of one part must not disable another, so the design carries independent backups for the essential functions.
