E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and risk

Definition

ICC International Maritime Bureau center in Kuala Lumpur.

The Piracy Reporting Centre of the ICC International Maritime Bureau, opened in 1992 and based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It runs a 24-hour watch that receives reports of piracy and armed robbery against ships worldwide, broadcasts warnings to vessels, liaises with law-enforcement and rescue agencies, and publishes quarterly and annual statistics that are a primary public record of global incident trends. The PRC’s definitions follow IMO and the IMB; its figures are widely cited by underwriters, navies, and the press, and feed the global maritime threat picture alongside ReCAAP and regional centers.
