ISO 10374

C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal trade

Definition

ISO standard for container automatic identification.

ISO 10374 is the standard for automatic identification of freight containers by radio frequency, published as ISO 10374:1991 with Amendment 1 in 1995. It specifies the container ID system, data coding, data content, performance criteria, and security features for an electronic tag readable without modification anywhere in the world, applied to containers defined in ISO 668. The tag carries the owner code, serial number, check digit, and size-type already marked optically under ISO 6346. Field uptake stayed low and later RFID and electronic-seal work moved toward ISO 18185 for e-seals, but ISO 10374 remains the base RF-identification reference for containers.
