ISO 1496

ISO 1496 is the international standard that sets the specification and testing requirements for Series 1 freight containers: strength, stacking, lifting, racking, floor loading, and weathertightness. It is the structural counterpart to ISO 668, which fixes external dimensions and ratings, and ISO 6346, which fixes marking. ISO 1496 runs in parts by container type: Part 1 general cargo, Part 2 thermal (reefer), Part 3 tank, Part 4 dry bulk (non-pressurized), and Part 5 platform and platform-based. A container passes the ISO 1496 stacking and corner-casting tests before it is CSC-plated for international service.
