King Point USMMA

An informal name for the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, the federal service academy on Long Island Sound dedicated in 1943. It commissions graduates as licensed merchant marine officers (deck or engineer) holding a Coast Guard license and a US Navy Reserve commission, awarding a Bachelor of Science. Cadets complete a Sea Year aboard commercial vessels, the only US service academy whose midshipmen serve at sea on working merchant ships.
