King's Point federal academy.
The federal service academy at Kings Point, New York, dedicated in 1943 to train merchant marine officers. Graduates earn a Bachelor of Science, a US Coast Guard license as deck or engineer officer to STCW 1978 (as amended Manila 2010) standard, and a US Navy Reserve commission. Cadets complete a Sea Year aboard commercial vessels, the only federal academy whose students serve at sea on working merchant ships, and incur a service obligation to the maritime industry or armed forces.
