Lashing certificate

A lashing certificate is the document confirming that cargo has been stowed and secured to an approved standard, issued by a certified lashing surveyor or the ship for the voyage in question. It records the securing arrangement, the lashing materials and their maximum securing load, and confirms compliance with the ship’s Cargo Securing Manual and the CSS Code. For project, heavy-lift, and out-of-gauge cargo it is required by the carrier, charterer, and cargo underwriters before sailing. The certificate is the evidence relied on in cargo-shift and general-average claims when securing adequacy is questioned.
