IMO Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing.
The CSS Code is the IMO Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing, adopted by Resolution A.714(17), which sets principles for safe stowage and securing of cargoes other than solid and liquid bulk and timber deck cargo. It underpins the ship-specific Cargo Securing Manual required by SOLAS Chapters VI/5 and VII/5 for all ships carrying cargo other than solid and liquid bulk. The Code covers securing forces from ship motion, lashing arrangements, and securing of containers, vehicles, and heavy units. Annex 13 gives the method for assessing the efficiency of securing arrangements.
