Local control panel (LCP)
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Engine-mounted control and indication panel.
A local control panel (LCP) is the machine-mounted station that gives manual control and indication of a single unit, a purifier, compressor, pump set, or auxiliary boiler, at the equipment itself, independent of the central automation. It carries start/stop controls, local instruments, the unit’s own PLC or relay logic, and a local/remote selector that hands authority to the engine-room console when set to remote. Class rules require local control of essential machinery so a unit can be operated and tested if the integrated automation system or its network is lost.
