Motor controlcenter (MCC)
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Switchboard for auxiliary motors.
A motor control center (MCC) is an assembly of switchgear that groups the starters, protection, and control for many auxiliary motors in one cabinet, fed from the main or a section switchboard. Each motor occupies a drawer or compartment with its contactor or VFD, overload and short-circuit protection, and local/remote control, often with a fieldbus link to the automation system. Grouping starters concentrates the cabling and protection coordination and simplifies maintenance and isolation. Marine MCCs follow IEC 60092, with form-separation, ingress protection, and selective protection so a fault in one feeder does not trip the board.
