EU/IOC maritime security capacity-building in the western Indian Ocean.

The Maritime Security (MASE) Programme, an EU-funded regional initiative implemented through the Indian Ocean Commission and other regional bodies to build maritime security capacity in eastern and southern Africa and the western Indian Ocean. Running from the early 2010s, MASE supports prosecution of pirates, regional information sharing, and the coordination centers that underpin the wider security architecture off Somalia. It helped establish the Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centre in Madagascar and the Regional Coordination Operations Centre in Seychelles, anchoring African ownership of counter-piracy effort.
