Definition

International high-performance sportsboat by Reichel/Pugh and Melges.

A 24 ft (7.3 m) high-performance one-design sportboat designed by Reichel/Pugh and built by Melges Performance Sailboats from 1993. The Melges 24 has a retractable bowsprit, an asymmetric spinnaker, a deep bulb keel that lifts for trailering, and a planing hull crewed by four to five with no trapeze. World Sailing recognizes it as an International class with an active world-championship circuit. It set the template for the modern trailerable planing keelboat and remains one of the largest such fleets worldwide.
