Minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship.
Title 1 of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 sets the minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship. It covers Regulation 1.1 minimum age (16 for shipboard work, 18 for night work and hazardous work), Regulation 1.2 medical fitness certificates, Regulation 1.3 training and qualifications consistent with STCW, and Regulation 1.4 recruitment and placement services. The MLC, 2006 was adopted at the 94th (Maritime) session of the International Labour Conference on 23 February 2006 and entered into force on 20 August 2013. Compliance with Title 1 items is recorded in the Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance for ships of 500 GT and above on international voyages.
