Definition

Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007.

The Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007, in force from 14 April 2015, gives coastal states a clear legal basis to require the marking and removal of wrecks that pose a hazard, including in their exclusive economic zone. It places strict liability on the registered owner and requires ships of 300 GT and above to carry wreck-removal insurance evidenced by a state-issued certificate.
