International Convention on Salvage, with Article 14 special compensation.

The International Convention on Salvage, 1989, replaced the 1910 Brussels rules and in force from 14 July 1996. Its Article 14 introduced special compensation for a salvor that protects the environment even where the traditional no-cure-no-pay reward fails, addressing the disincentive to assist in pollution casualties.
