Legal Committee, dealing with private and public international maritime law issues.
The Legal Committee was established after the 1967 Torrey Canyon disaster to deal with legal questions arising from IMO work. It develops conventions on liability and compensation, including the Civil Liability and Fund conventions, the Bunkers Convention, the HNS Convention, the Wreck Removal Convention, and the LLMC. It is open to all Member States and adopts resolutions prefixed LEG.
