Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue.
The Sub-Committee on Navigation, Communications and Search and Rescue (NCSR) is the IMO body responsible for the SOLAS Chapter V safety-of-navigation provisions, the GMDSS, ships’ routeing and reporting systems, ECDIS and e-navigation, and the search-and-rescue work shared with ICAO under the SAR Convention. It reports to the MSC. NCSR first met in 2014, merging the work of the former NAV and COMSAR sub-committees under the 2013 restructuring. It reviews and recommends routeing measures and carriage requirements but adopts no instruments itself.
