International Code of Signals letter N, meaning "No" (negative).

November is letter N of the International Code of Signals, the negative, meaning “No.” The flag is a blue-and-white checkerboard of sixteen squares. Hoisted singly it answers a question in the negative or directs that a group be read negatively; it is the counterpart of Charlie, the affirmative. When November is flown above Charlie (NC), the two-flag hoist is the recognized signal of distress under the Code.
