Offshore Substation Installation Vessel

An offshore substation installation vessel is a heavy-lift or jack-up vessel that lifts and sets the topside and jacket foundation of an offshore wind farm’s substation (the offshore substation platform, OSP), which steps up array-cable voltage for export to shore. Topsides on large AC and HVDC platforms run from a few thousand to over ten thousand tonnes, driving the use of SSCVs or large jack-up cranes for a single-piece lift or float-over. The same fleet of installation vessels also sets turbine foundations and topsides across the wind-farm build.
