Pacific Basin index

Pacific basin freight assessments are the Pacific-region route components inside the Baltic dry-bulk indices, not a separate named index. The Baltic Panamax Index includes Pacific round-voyage routes such as P3A_82 (Hong Kong to South Korea range transpacific round) and P5_82 (South China and Indonesian round), and the Supramax and Handysize indices carry their own Asia and Pacific routes. Brokers and owners watch the Pacific sub-basket separately from the Atlantic because the two basins can diverge sharply on cargo flow and ballast economics. The term is sometimes confused with Pacific Basin Shipping, a listed Hong Kong dry-bulk owner, which is a company, not an index.
