Pre-vetting inspection

C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical management

Definition

Inspection in preparation for SIRE 2.0 or CDI.

A pre-vetting inspection is an internal mock inspection a tanker operator runs before a real charterer vetting, to find and fix deficiencies ahead of an OCIMF SIRE 2.0 or CDI inspection. An experienced inspector works through the relevant question set, the SIRE 2.0 question library, or the CDI marine scheme, checks hardware, documents, and crew responses, and lists corrective actions the crew clears before the actual inspector arrives. OCIMF launched SIRE 2.0 on 2 September 2024, with around 100 tailored, tablet-based questions per inspection that score crew competence alongside the ship, so pre-vetting now rehearses the human element too. A clean vetting record is a precondition for fixtures with most oil and chemical majors.
