Qualifications and Credit Framework, MNTB

F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and Institutions

Definition

UK Merchant Navy Training Board framework.

A UK competence and credit structure for merchant-navy training overseen by the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB), the industry body that sets training standards for British seafarers. The framework maps cadet and officer education to STCW certificates of competency issued by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, defining the deck, engineering, and electro-technical officer programs, the required sea time, and the academic awards (foundation degree or HND) that sit alongside the certificate. The Qualifications and Credit Framework was the national credit system the training mapped to before it was superseded.
