Cadet

A cadet is a trainee deck or engine officer working through the structured education, sea service, and onboard training that lead to a first STCW Certificate of Competency at the operational level. The cadet completes the approved syllabus, logs competence in the training record book, and serves a sea phase of typically 12 months before sitting the officer of the watch examination. Deck cadets train toward Regulation II/1 and engine cadets toward III/1.
