Quarry Bank Maritime Connections

The trade links of Quarry Bank Mill at Styal, Cheshire, a National Trust property and one of the best-preserved textile mills of the Industrial Revolution, built by Samuel Greg in 1784. The mill spun raw cotton shipped through Liverpool from the American South and the West Indies, tying a rural Cheshire site to the Atlantic cotton trade and, before abolition, to slave-grown supply. Its finished cotton was exported back through the same port; the heritage links the Greg family’s mill to transatlantic shipping.
