Brisbane institution covering tropical maritime history.
A maritime museum at South Brisbane, Queensland, opened in 1971 on the Brisbane River and built around a working dry dock, the South Brisbane Graving Dock of 1881. Its flagship vessel is HMAS Diamantina, a River-class frigate of the Royal Australian Navy completed 1945, the only one of her class preserved. The collection covers tropical coastal trade, the Great Barrier Reef shipping hazard, lighthouses, and Queensland shipbuilding.
