Reserve Component (Naval)

The part-time, mobilizable element of a navy that augments the active force in war or surge, manned by reservists who train periodically and hold civilian jobs otherwise. The US Navy Reserve, established in 1915, provides individual augmentees and whole units in logistics, intelligence, medical, construction (Seabees), and other specialties; the UK Royal Naval Reserve is the equivalent. Reservists can be mobilized under presidential or congressional authority and integrate into active commands, expanding capacity without the cost of a larger standing force.
