Royal Yacht Britannia

HMY Britannia was the British royal yacht launched in 1953 from John Brown & Co. at Clydebank and in service to the monarchy from 1954 until decommissioning on 11 December 1997. Over 43 years she sailed about a million nautical miles on state visits and royal tours and was designed to convert to a hospital ship in wartime, though never so used. Since 1998 she has been preserved as a visitor attraction at Ocean Terminal in Leith, the port of Edinburgh, operated by the Royal Yacht Britannia Trust.
