Task Group (TG)
E2. Naval, defence and maritime law enforcementDefinition
Subdivision of a Task Force.
A subdivision of a task force, formed to perform a part of the task force’s mission, identified by a decimal number appended to the parent (Task Force 70 yields Task Group 70.1). A task group concentrates the ships needed for one function (a carrier and its escorts, an amphibious group, or a logistics group) under a subordinate commander. It further divides into task units and task elements. The numbering convention makes the chain of command and the parent formation readable from the designator alone.
