A search and rescue cooperation plan is the plan every passenger ship on international voyages must carry for cooperation with appropriate SAR services in an emergency, required by SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 7.3. The plan is developed jointly by the ship, the company, and the relevant rescue coordination centers, and it includes periodic exercises to test its effectiveness. IMO guidance for preparing the plan is in MSC.1/Circ.1079/Rev.1. The plan lists contacts, communication procedures, and the ship particulars an RCC needs to coordinate assistance, mass rescue, and possible evacuation, and is held ready for the coordinating RCC on demand.
