Ship's noon report

The ship’s noon report is the daily message sent at local apparent noon giving the noon position, the distance run and average speed over the past 24 hours, fuel and diesel oil remaining on board (ROB) with consumption, slip, weather and sea state, and the revised estimated time of arrival. The master sends it to owners and charterers, and the figures feed voyage performance, bunker planning, charter-party speed and consumption warranties, and CII monitoring. The position is traditionally the noon latitude by meridian altitude crossed with a longitude by chronometer, now the GPS fix. Distance run is logged over the ground and through the water, and the difference against engine revolutions gives the slip.
