Stripping
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
Unloading of a container.
Stripping is the unloading, or devanning, of cargo from a container, the reverse of stuffing. It happens at the consignee’s premises, an inland depot, or a container freight station, where LCL boxes are deconsolidated into individual consignments. The clock on container detention runs until the emptied box is returned, so prompt stripping and return matter to the cargo interest’s costs and to the carrier’s equipment availability. Damp, dust, and residual dangerous-goods residues make it a recognized occupational hazard.
