Definition

Conditions to be lifted before a fixture becomes binding.

Conditions that must be lifted before a negotiated fixture becomes a binding contract. Common subjects include subject details (the full clause set still to be agreed), subject board or management approval, subject stem (cargo confirmation), and subject survey. Until every subject is lifted, either party can walk away without liability. A fixture with all subjects lifted is a clean fixture; the moment of lifting fixes the contract date.
