Tank container
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
ISO tank container for liquids and gases.
A tank container is a cylindrical pressure vessel mounted inside a 20-foot ISO frame, used to move bulk liquids, gases, and powders: chemicals, food-grade liquids, and liquefied gas. The frame meets ISO 1496-3 (tank containers) so the unit handles, stacks, and locks like any box; the tank itself is built and approved as a UN portable tank under the IMDG Code, marked with a T-code (T1 to T75) that fixes the test pressure, shell thickness, and relief arrangement for the substance carried. Typical capacity is 21,000 to 26,000 liters. A minimum 80 percent fill avoids surge and a maximum guards against thermal expansion.
