UCP 600

UCP 600 is the ICC Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, in force since 1 July 2007, the rulebook that banks worldwide apply to letters of credit. It defines documentary compliance, the autonomy of the credit from the underlying sale, and the examination standard banks use to decide whether to pay. Because banks pay against documents that conform on their face, the bill of lading, invoice, and packing list must match the credit exactly; the companion ISBP guides how that examination is performed.
