URDG 758

URDG 758 is the ICC Uniform Rules for Demand Guarantees, the 2010 revision, ICC Publication No. 758, in force from 1 July 2010. It governs independent demand guarantees and counter-guarantees, the bank instruments that pay the beneficiary on a complying written demand without proof of the principal’s actual default. The rules define the documents a demand must include, fix examination periods, and treat the guarantee as separate from the underlying contract, the autonomy principle. URDG 758 replaced URDG 458 (1992) and sits beside UCP 600 (documentary credits), URC 522 (collections), and ISP98 (standby credits) in the ICC trade finance framework. It is widely used for performance, advance payment, and bid guarantees.
