UCL-affiliated maritime research consultancy.
UMAS (University Maritime Advisory Services) is a London technical and commercial consultancy focused on shipping energy and decarbonization. From 2015 to June 2024 it operated jointly with the UCL Energy Institute shipping research group under the shared UMAS brand; in June 2024 it separated to run as an independent consultancy while UCL continued the academic research strand. UMAS analyzes the shipping system using fleet models, satellite AIS big data, and policy and social-science research, and its work has informed IMO greenhouse-gas strategy debates, the Poseidon Principles, and zero-emission-vessel pathway studies.
