Woodward UG-25

B2. Marine Engineering

Definition

Mechanical-hydraulic engine governor.

The Woodward UG-25+ is a mechanical-hydraulic, high-work-output engine governor with microprocessor speed control, used on marine diesel, gas, and dual-fuel engines and steam turbines. A flyweight head and an oil-pressure power piston position the fuel rack, while the electronics add programmable speed setting, droop and isochronous modes, start-fuel limiting, and transient jump-rate fueling that improves load acceptance and cuts transient emissions. It is a drop-in replacement for the older UG-8 and 3161 governors and needs no auxiliary start booster or oil cooler. On generator sets it sets frequency droop for parallel load sharing.
