World Sailing Speed Record Council

The World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC) is the body that ratifies outright and class sailing speed records, established in 1972 by the Royal Yachting Association and now operating under World Sailing. It validates records over a measured 500-meter course and on passages such as transatlantic and round-the-world runs, requiring GPS or surveyed timing and observers. The outright 500 m record stands at 65.45 knots, set by Paul Larsen’s Vestas Sailrocket 2 in 2012.
